As of today, Version 1.6.0 (and its minor stability iterations) remains the final major version of the game. Nintendo officially shifted all development resources to Tears of the Kingdom shortly after the VR update. For those looking for new content in 2021 and beyond, the "update" wasn't a patch, but a transition to the next chapter of the Zelda franchise.
