However, research has consistently shown that Latina women are disproportionately affected by intimate partner violence (IPV), with nearly 1 in 4 Latina women experiencing IPV in their lifetime (Tjaden & Thoennes, 2000). The case of Kendra Star, a 27-year-old Latina woman who was brutally murdered by her boyfriend in 2011, is a heartbreaking example of the devastating consequences of Latina abuse.
